Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson

Malcom became a writer for pulp magazines, he adapted many of his stories that he wrote into comic form. After a couple failed attempts to create magazines/newspaper he created Detective Comics Inc. He was later forced out of the company due to financial issues.

Superman

Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, initially this character was developed as a villain. After the two men were unsuccessful in creating Superman into a daily comic strip, they were hired at DC-National Comics. Then Superman was published as an Action Comic in 1939. Also in 1939 the two men signed over their rights of Superman to DC Comics. Superman has 6 movies that he has been in since 1978 and 974 comics.

Batman

Bob Kane started working in comics in 1936. After the success of Superman, Bob Kane and Bill Finger created Batman. Batman was inspired by the after Douglas Fairbank’s portrayal of Zorro, Leonardo Da Vinci’s painting of a flying machine with huge bat-like wings, and the 1930s film The Bat Whispers. Batman debuted in Detective Comics no.27, in May 1939. Bob Kane also created other characters that fight crime with Batman, like Catwoman (originally called “The Cat”) and Robin. While Bob created side-kicks he also created Batman’s villain, The Joker. Batman has been in 16 movies and 933 comics.

DC Cinematic Universe

The DC Cinematic Universe is a movie franchise that turned the DC comics into live-action movies. The DC cinematic universe is a very complicated history. The first film based on any DC character was 1951’s Superman and the Mole Man, but was not credited to any “DC” production company. Then Warner Bros created DC Entertainment in 2009, and had the movie The Losers come out in 2010, but the first movie in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) was The Man Of Steel in 2013. Then the Warner Bros reorganized in 2016 to create “DC Films” and the first movie in DC Films is Suicide Squad in 2016. So to find the first DC movie is a difficult answer. DC has 39 live action movies and 34 live action TV shows.
